Background

Emerald is a 40kg Green turtle who was brought in to the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project in 2008 with a massive crack in her plastron and damage to the carapace and face. The DTRP team made up of Kevin Hyland from the Dubai Wildlife Protection Office and the Jumeirah Group's Burj Al Arab Aquarium team worked closely with Dr Mirjam Hampel from the Al Wasl Veterinary Clinic to repair the fracture and start the healing process.

In 2010 Emerald was scheduled for release after her wounds had healed but Emerald relapsed and fell sick again. Luckily she made a full recovery and on 25.11.11 Emerald was released from the Madinat Jumeirah beach with a satellite transmitter that was funded by the Burj Al Arab hotel.

Emerald is the fifth turtle released by the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project with a satellite transmitter and all tags have been funded by the Jumeirah Group.
