Background
Measuring 48 cm in length (CCL), Joalin is the first hawksbill in the Eastern Pacific Ocean to receive a PTT satellite tag as well as the first hawksbill caught as part of the Eastern Pacific Hawksbill InitiativeJoalin was captured on June 20, 2008 using a tangle net just north of Ligüi on the western coast of the Gulf of California, Mexico.
The satellite tag was donated by Oceana and project activities were made possible through the close collaboration between Pro Peninsula and the Grupo Tortuguero. Funding for the project was provided by People´s Trust for Endangered Species, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Fish and Wildlife Federation.
