Introduction
|
|
This project aims to find out more about the at-sea behaviour of loggerhead sea turtles following nesting on the beaches of Bald Head Island, North Carolina. We deployed 4 satellite transmitters or Platform Terminal Transmitters (PTT?s) on loggerhead sea turtles in July 2003. This has allowed us to track the long distance movements of these turtles and has given insights into migratory and foraging behaviour.
Project Partners
The project is a collaboration among the Bald Head Island Conservancy and the Marine Turtle Research Group (Annette Broderick, Brendan Godley, Lucy Hawkes) and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (Matthew Godfrey).
Project Sponsors
This work was possible as a result of the financial and inkind support of the Anderson Family, Crumpler Family, Humphries Family, Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Newport Aquarium, PADI Project Aware, Progress Energy, Ann Pickering, and Juanita Roushdy.
