Introduction

ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece are currently undertaking a multi-year EU Co-funded project with a component investigating various aspects of sea turtle behaviour and habitat utilisation in Greek / Eastern Mediterranean seas. Other project components include improving the National Sea Turtle Stranding Network co-ordinated by ARCHELON and the National Port Authorities, reducing sea turtle mortality and injury caused by Greek fisheries and enhancement and expansion of the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre near Athens.

Project Partners

ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece was founded in 1983 as a non profit non governmental organisation with the aim to conserve sea turtles in Greece through direct protection, education and scientific study.

This project is co-funded by ARCHELON and the European Commission through a LIFE-Nature Project entitled "Reduction of mortality of Caretta caretta in the Greek seas".
