Background

Argentum, a juvenile Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, was accidentally hooked on the Oceanview Fishing Pier in Norfolk, VA on May 21, 2011. The fishers called the Stranding Team and volunteers were immediately sent to pick him/her up. Argentum had a small J-hook in the right side of his mouth and through his tongue so s/he was put on antibiotics to prevent any infection while the injury healed. Argentum responded quickly to treatments and began eating right away. S/he has been fitted with a satellite transmitter and was released from the Virginia Aquarium’s research vessel just offshore of Virginia Beach.
