Background

We found Al Durra nesting on Beach 16 on the west side of Sir Bu Nair island in the Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. After bringing her back to the EMEG site office, we affixed a satellite transmitter to her back and a metal flipper tag (number 1106) to her right front flipper, so that we would be in a position to identify her on a return visit to the island, and also so that she could share with us her movements around the Gulf. With the generous sponsorship of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Al Durra now joins a growing number of turtles that are shedding light on key turtle areas, helping direct effective and appropriate conservation strategies in the region.
