Background
This peregrine falcon was born in Upshur Bay, Virginia, USA in 2007. The nest was on a man-made nesting tower specifically built for peregrines out in the tidal lagoon system of the barrier islands. The young falcon was translocated to the New River Gorge, WV as part of a program we hope will reintroduce a breeding population of falcons to the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. She's spent the winters of 2007 and 2008 in Mobile Bay, AL most likely hunting wintering shorebirds on the tidal flats. Each spring she migrates back to the mountains near the New River Gorge. She disappeared in central Ohio in the spring of 2009. Staff of Ohio DNR located her transmitter and her remains in a farm field. We suspect she was predated by another raptor.
