Background

Purrapuntirri is the Tiwi name for the small island (otherwise known as Seagull Is.) that is located 5 km offshore from the nesting beach at Cape Van Diemen. This island is also an important breeding area for olive ridley and flatback turtles and supports a large crested tern rookery.
