Background
Althea was the first eagle we captured using the "noose fish" method. The noose fish is theoretically a relatively simple method of catching fish eating raptors where the researcher attaches fishing line nooses to a dead fish and an anchor to hold the bird once it gets caught. It took us a while to get the method down but this was one of two we caught during that particular float. Needless to say we were very happy to get Althea. We are very curious to see where she is going to be heading in the next couple of months. UPDATE-Althea did not nest in 2011 and took a trip down to the Pinedale, WY area where she was discovered by biologists. Cause of death was unknown and her remains were unfortunately left in the field. Often times when adult eagles leave their territory during breeding season, they may be involved in territorial battles which can result in death. It is our understanding Althea was located near a known bald eagle territory but since she was not recovered, cause of death will never be known.
