Background

This golden eagle is a winter visitor to the Chesapeake Bay. In spring, this eagle flies home to Labrador and Quebec for the summer months, a distance of over 1,500 miles. In November, this eagle will return to the Bay to hunt rabbits and other grassland prey along the marshes of the Bay. We captured this eagle using a rocket net baited with a road killed deer. After fitting the eagle with a solar powered GPS transmitter, we released it on the shoreline of the Bay.
