Background

Jah is a juvenile loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) that was accidentally captured in a gillnet by an artisanal fisherman in Samborombón Bay, Buenos Aires province (Argentina). Jah was released from the net by the fishermen and brought immediately to land. The turtle was moved to a rehabilitation center and monitored to evaluate her health status. Very soon Jah started to feed on fishes and swam actively. Her good body condition allowed researches to deploy a satellite transmitter to track her movements and migrations in Argentine waters. This information is of paramount importance since it will allow researches to identify highly used feeding areas and estimate the proportion of the loggerhead’s habitat that is overlapped with fishing grounds. When released, Jah weighted 26,5 kg and measured 60 cm of carapace lenght.
