Background

Nyafessa was tagged early in the morning of November 8. She was named after the southernmost base camp within Mayumba National Park, approximately &é km north of the Congo border. In Vili, a native language in Southern Gabon, Nyafessa means 'Mermaid'. This seemed a suitable name for the first tagged turtle of the season, and also a way of thanking many eco-guards, staff and volunteers of Mayumba National Park. Nyafessa was found about 5 km north of the base camp Nyafessa, between the two river mouths of the Tchimbia River.
