Background

Kala, the third of five tagged olive ridleys, was named after the nearby beautiful village of Kalamabote, which frequently hosts the ecoguards and researchers as they transit to base camp Nyafessa. In Vili, a native language in Southern Gabon, Kalamabote means 'tranquil' which is a suitable description of the village and the turtles. Kala was found about 5.5 km north of base camp Nyafessa, north of the second Tchimbia River mouth opening, and south of the point.
