Background
Kelly first nested on Keewaydin Island in 2001. She was seen nesting only one time that year; however, the dates of the four false crawls during which she was observed indicted she laid an additional 4 nests. She was back again in 2004 and 2008 and laid four known nests in each of those years. Of the 9 observed nests she laid over those years, 4 were washed away by storms. The remaining nests from those years for which data was available accounted for 630 eggs, which resulted in 241 hatchlings reach the Gulf. This year Kelly was observed nesting three times. We hope that none of her nests from this reproductive season are washed away by storms.
