Background
This whimbrel, banded with green leg flag "ACX", was the first whimbrel tracked from Virginia to the breeding ground in Canada and back. Summer 2009 was a record breaking late ice breakup in the eastern Artic and caused widespread failure of shorebird breeding in the region. Boxer summered on the shores on James Bay in Ontario, Canada but likely did not breed. This whimbrel was resighted in Virginia fall 2009 but shortly disappeared shortly after.
