Background

Indi the Whimbrel was named after Indian Creek in the salt marsh near where she was caught in coastal Virginia. She was banded with green leg flag “ANX” in spring 2009. After release, she flew north to the James Bay then continued northwest to spend the summer on the breeding grounds in the Northwest Territories of Canada. In July 2009, this Whimbrel began fall migration south but after landing in Manitoba on the shores of Hudson Bay, the bird's transmitter sent signals the Whimbrel was dead.
