Background
This Whimbrel was named after the place it was captured near Kitt Creek in the barrier islands of Virginia. It was banded with green leg flag "APP" in fall 2009. Shortly after being released, it migrated south over the open ocean and made landfall on the Dominican Republic. After a few weeks of refueling, it left the DR and continued south to winter along the Suriname coast.
