Due to bad tides, Nora was one of only a dozen turtles which emerged to nest on Crab Island on the night of 7th Nov 08. She dug at least 3 body pits and wandered the beach for up to 150m, before returning to the water without laying. A PTT was deployed as she was returning.

Background

This project will track for the first time the post nesting migration of flatback sea turtles from Crab Island, Australia - the largest known nesting rookery for the species.
The project is designed to gather an understanding of the range of movement, migration routes, habitat use and behaviour – information critical to effectively manage the population. The turtles will be tracked from Crab Island to their feeding grounds, which are currently unknown.
