Background

We are very excited to see Jill II nesting again on Keewaydin island in 2012! Jill was first seen nesting on Keewaydin Island in 1997 and was flipper tagged by a Conservancy intern named Jill, who is now a GIS specialist for the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve. She continues to help protect Keewaydin’s turtles by mapping the exact location of their nests and monitoring shoreline erosion on the island. Jill (the turtle) nested five times in 1997, four times in 2000. She had not been seen again on Keewaydin since 2000 until she was spotted nesting again in 2010.

We were lucky enough to satellite tag Jill (the turtle) in 2010. You can check out her 2010 tracks by clicking on Jill's name on our tracking page. After nesting in 2010, Jill traveled up north to the waters near the Panhandle where she established her post-nesting foraging grounds. Where will Jill (II) go this year!?
